Why

The CAP “Changing Lives” Upscale Resale Shop opened in November 2013.  “Changing Lives” Upscale Resale Shop (CLURS) is a social enterprise of the Community Action Partnership of Lake County. For over 50 years, Community Action Partnership of Lake County (CAPOLC), a nonprofit organization, has administered:

  • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Weatherization

  • Lake County Head Start (Early Childhood Development Program)

  • Youth and Family Services (Youth Prevention Services, Emergency   Assistance and Food Pantry)

  • Affordable Housing programs

The Mission of the Community Action Partnership of Lake County is to reduce the causes and effects of poverty, promote self-sufficiency of families and individuals with low incomes and improve the standard of living in the Lake County service area.

CAPOLC is one of 1,000 agencies across the United States established under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 to fight America’s War on poverty.  As part of a national network, the agencies work to strengthen, promote and represent the voice of the more than 34.5 million people who are living in poverty in the U.S.

The CAPOLC social enterprises provide job opportunities and income enabling the Agency to be more innovative in our service approach. Profit for the social enterprises provide much needed funding to support services assisting low income working families.

CLURS works with townships, social service agencies and other nonprofit organizations to provide business clothing at a reasonable cost for job seekers and more. Shopping/donating at the CAP “Changing Lives” Upscale Resale Shop supports low income individuals and families in Lake County.
